German Navy’s Bremen-class frigate is scheduled to hold a change of command ceremony on May 13, 2016.
Due to construction works at the navy yard in Wilhelmshaven the ceremony will take place at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany.
The 4th Frigate Squadron Commander, Captain at Sea, Thorsten Marx will transfer the command over the frigate from Frigate Captain Jörg Mascow to Frigate Captain Marco Taedcke.
Looking back at his time spent with the frigate, Mascow said: “The crew and I had a challenging and at the same time wonderful time onboard the ‘WILDEN13’ (Wild13). I will miss the close connection to the men and women of the Augsburg, but I am looking forward to my new responsibilities.”
A special experience was the crossing of the Corinth Canal in May 2014, Mascow recalled.
The new commander of the frigate, Marco Taedcke, previously served in the international NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.
FGS Augsburg was launched in September 1987 and commissioned into the navy in October 1989. Four of the Bremen-class frigates have already been decommissioned while the remaining three are scheduled to be replaced by Germany’s new F 125 frigates .
During her latest deployment, the Augsburg first set sail for EUNAVFOR’s operation Sophia but was later redirected to support the French aircraft carrier FS Charless de Gaulle and its operations against the Daesh in the Middle East.
