Defense company changes name because of ISIS

BMT Cadence is the new name of a UK-based defense contracting company that was compelled to change its former name, Isis, because of the notorious rebel group in the Middle East.

BMT Isis (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group, the international design, engineering and risk management consultancy, on March 5 announced the name change and said it was effective immediately.

Mike Prince, Managing Director of BMT Cadence explains: “Given recent global events, we recognise the sensitivities around any organisation using the name Isis and we hope that the name change will serve as clear affirmation of BMT’s support to our clients operating within UK and global defence markets and the front-line forces that we collectively serve.”

The company explained that the new name – Cadence – was chosen “for its strong resonances to the way BMT does business, as it means measured and rhythmic. Measured aligns particularly well with BMT’s proportionate approach to risk management and its focus on providing pragmatic advice that acts as an enabler for client operations”.
