SNMG 1 docks in Riga, Latvia

Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1), under the command of Spanish Navy Rear Admiral Jose Enrique Delgado, visited Riga, Latvia, for a scheduled port visit last week.

The group is currently deployed to the North and Baltic Seas.

SNMG1 is currently composed of three ships: the Spanish F100 class frigate ESPS Alvaro de Bazan (F101), as flagship, the UK Type 23 Frigate HMS Iron Duke (F234) and the Spanish Combat Replenishment Ship ESPS Cantabria (A15).

Prior to the visit the group has conducted exercises in the Baltic Sea, interacting with regional navies and air forces, enhancing the Group´s readiness and interoperability with other units.

Rear Admiral Delgado said on the occasion: “This Group´s first visit to Riga this year will provide SNMG1 occasions to engage with local authorities and will allow our crews to enjoy the historical and cultural offerings in this most welcomed visit to Latvia.”

“SNMG1 will continue to seek cooperation and exercising opportunities with our NATO Allies in the Baltic.”
