Indian Navy’s guided missile frigate INS Tabar entered Port Louis, Mauritius where it will participate in the Mauritius National Day celebrations.
On the occasion, the ship would be fielding a marching contingent in addition to a fly-past by the embarked Chetak helicopter and a performance by the Indian Naval Band.
INS Tabar is scheduled to stay in the port until March 13.
Last year, the National Day Celebrations coincided with the joint commissioning of MCGS Barracuda by the prime ministers of both countries. The Barracuda is an offshore patrol vessel of National Coast Guard Mauritius.
This was a significant occasion as the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers-built patrol vessel was the first warship to be exported by an Indian shipyard.
In addition to the National Day celebrations, INS Tabar sailors will deliver harbour training through lectures and demonstrations to the National Coast Guard of Mauritius. The lectures will cover maritime activities including anti piracy drills, Visit Board Search and Seizure of ships at sea, use of special equipments and weapons, engineering and preventive maintenance capsules, training on radar, chart plotting, GPS operations for coastal surveillance radar system, damage control and fire fighting.
