Colombian Navy rescues 11 international boaters

Colombian Navy Coast Guard vessels rescued eleven people from a sailing boat adrift in the Santa Marta area on February 16.

The Navy said that of the eleven crew members of the U.S.-flagged sailing vessel ‘Astrid’, ten were international citizens coming from France, Norway, USA, UK, Canada and the Netherlands.

According to the Navy, the vessel drifted without propulsion in the Punta Betín sector in the general area of Santa Marten. Bad weather and difficult sea conditions caused the ship to enter a rocky area and loose propulsion.

The sailboat and its crew members were transferred to the International Marina Santa Marta.
