Colombian Navy intercepts 86 kg of cocaine

Units of the Colombian Navy and the National Police of Colombia on January 7 seized 86 kilograms of cocaine which were being transported aboard a sailing boat named Vagamundo.

The Navy said the intercept was made in the area of Bocachica in the bay Cartagena, where two men of Colombian nationality were captured.

The result was achieved thanks to intelligence work carried out by the authorities, who detected 87 plastic-wrapped packages hidden in the vessel. At the time of the interdiction the sailing boat lacked an international sailing permit, and was apparently sailing in the direction of San Andrés, Colombia from where drug traffickers intended to transport the drugs to the European continent.

The seized contraband was subsequently sent to the Coast Guard Station of Cartagena, where the vessel was once more searched and the found substances tested positive for cocaine. The suspects, contraband, and the boat were all made available to the competent authorities.

During 2015, the Navy seized 30.9 tons of cocaine hydrochloride in the Caribbean.
