ITS Carabiniere visits Madagascar

ITS Carabiniere, flagship of the EU Naval Force, paid her first visit to Antisiranana, Madagascar from December 22 to 26.

Having berthed, Rear Admiral Stefano Barbieri and the Commanding Officer of ITS Carabiniere, Commander Francesco Saladino were received by the Commander of the local Naval Base, Captain Vaohavy Andriambelonarivo Andasy.

Rear Admiral Barbieri said: “The port of Antisiranana is important for our operations in the Somali Basin and this is why I want to thank local authorities for the support they provide to the naval units during their visits to this port.”

The port visit of ITS Carabiniere was an opportunity to further strengthen the relationship between the EU Naval Force and regional states.

ITS Carabiniere supported a local orphanage and charitable organisations during her visit to Antisiranana.

Sailors from the Italian warship donated food, medical equipment, stationery and toys while carrying out maintenance to help improve the general conditions of the facilities.
