Operation Atalanta warships regularly engage with regional states during port visits and have helped to train and develop skills and capabilities to improve security within the region.

Operation Atalanta is a European Union mission launched in 2008 with the aim of preventing piracy off the Horn of Africa and securing maritime trade and humanitarian shipping routes. On November 21, 2014, the Council of the EU extended the Mandate of Operation Atalanta until December 2016.
