USS Gravely spends Christmas in Seychelles

The U.S. Navy’s guided-missile destroyer USS Gravely (DDG 107) arrived in Port Victoria, Seychelles for a scheduled port visit on December 23.

Gravely departed Norfolk November 16 as part of the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group to support maritime security operations and theater cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility.

Operations Specialist 2nd Class H. Stewart said: “I’m more than thrilled to be spending Christmas in Seychelles. Sure I miss my loved ones, but I’ll be spending this holiday season with my Navy family for a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The deployment is part of a regular rotation of forces to support maritime security operations, provide crisis response capability, and increase theater security cooperation and forward naval presence in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation.

With USS Harry S. Truman as the flagship, other ships in the strike group are the USS Anzio (CG 68), USS Bulkeley (DDG 84), USS Gravely (DDG 107), and USS Gonzalez (DDG 66).
