HMS Atherstone Heads Home After Three-Year Deployment

As the Royal Navy’s HMS Middleton set sail for the Persian Gulf, HMS Atherstone started her 6,700-mile trip back home.

During her time in the Gulf, Atherstone has worked on ensuring security and stability in an area that contains three of the world’s six maritime chokepoints.

She has covered some 44,520 nautical miles and conducted over 8,630 hours of operational tasking.

The ship has also taken part in 14 UK/US/training exercises and conducted extensive survey tasking to support the US/UK MCMV effort to maintain the sea lines of communication.
