Ingalls Shipbuilding to Christen USCG Cutter Munro

Ingalls Shipbuilding, a division of Huntingon Ingalls Industries, has announced the christening ceremony for the sixth Legend-class National Security Cutter Munro (WMSL 755) which is to take place on Saturday, November 14, 2015.

The ship is named for Signalman First Class Douglas Munro who died saving the lives of 500 Marines in battle at Guadalcanal during World War II.

His great-niece, Julie Sheehan will serve as Ship Sponsor and will perform the traditional honor of breaking a bottle of American sparkling wine across the ship’s bow during the christening ceremony.

Munro (WMSL 755) will join cutters Bertholf (WMSL 750), Waesche (WMSL 751), Stratton (WMSL 752), Hamilton (WMSL 753) and James (WMSL 754) as the sixth Legend-class NSC built at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Ingalls has also begun construction on USCGC Kimball, the latest cutter from the Deepwater project which is an acquisition project to replace ships, aircraft, C4I and logistics systems necessary for the U.S. Coast Guard to fulfill its missions.
