Royal Navy’s Sonar Training Facility Paying Off

Sailors are benefiting from a new Sonar 2076 training facility opened at the Royal Naval Submarine School at HMS Raleigh on Monday, October 19, 2015.

Royal Navy sonar operators will now train on the exact sonar system they will be working on in their submarines.

The Sonar 2076 training system provides realistic, hands on training, and removes any ‘training lag’ where operators have previously had to familiarise themselves with individual systems on different boats. The system is the product of a joint initiative between the Royal Navy, Defence Equipment and Support and Thales.

The new package is called Rapidly Reconfigurable Training Technology (RRTT) and delivers a professional, portable learning environment.

RRTT has been designed so that it can be re-configured to future upgrades and, in time, be applied to other naval training such as communications, anti-submarine and mine warfare.
