Following the participation in the Japanese International Fleet Review and port visit to Yokosuka, Japan, Australian HMAS Stuart took part in the bilateral Exercise Nichi Gou Trident with Japanese naval ships.

Stuart, along with five ships of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force, JS Kirisame, JS Shimakaze, JS Kirishima, JS Chokai and JS Samidare conducted joint maritime warfare drills over four days, honing their skills in a variety of disciplines off the south eastern coast of Japan.

With the broad aim of the exercise being to further develop interoperability between the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force and the Royal Australian Navy, the six ships participated in a range of activities including anti-submarine warfare, ship handling, aviation operations and surface gunnery.

The Anzac class frigate HMAS Stuart is currently undertaking a North East Asia deployment to Japan, South Korea and China.
