International Fleet Review 2016 to be Held in India

Indian Navy’s Chief of Naval Staff Admiral RK Dhowan announced the Navy’s plans to conduct an International Fleet Review (IFR) on the Eastern Seaboard at Visakhapatnam from February 4 – 8, 2016.

Speaking at a specially convened press conference on October 14, Admiral Dhowan disclosed that 46 nations have confirmed their participation in IFR 2016.

Next year’s IFR will be attended by the Indian President, the Prime Minister and the Defence Minister along with naval leaders of participating nations. Over a hundred warships are expected to take part in the review.

Speaking about the upcoming event, Admiral RK Dhowan said:

During the International Fleet Review, the navies of the world will come together at Visakhapatnam to strengthen bridges of friendship. We may be separated by geography, but we are certainly united through oceans.

The Visakhapatnam international fleet review would be the second one to be hosted by India. The host city for India’s first review was Mumbai in 2001.
