Royal Saudi Navy Officials Tour Spanish Ship in Jeddah

During its transit back to Spain after completing a deployment of more than five months in operation Atalanta, the amphibious assault ship ESPS Galicia has made a brief stopover in the Saudi Arabian port of Jeddah.

The purpose of the visit was to show the ship to the Royal Saudi Navy officials. This event was part of the Saudi Arabian intentions to acquire two amphibious assault ships.

After the Royal Saudi Navy had shown interest in acquiring vessels with features similar to those of ESPS Galicia, the General Spanish Navy Staff and the Defense Attaché in Riyadh, in coordination with the Spanish ship building company Navantia, organized a visit to support the interests of the Spanish domestic industry.

The visit consisted of a presentation of the capabilities and characteristics of the vessel with a representative of Navantia subsequently presenting his company’s products.

Having completed its participation in the operation Atalanta, the ESPS Galicia is scheduled to return to her homeport on October 25.
