Swedish Navy Corvette Visits Lithuania

Swedish Navy’s Visby class corvette HMS Karlstad departed for an official visit to Klaipeda, Lithuania yesterday, Oct 7.

The visit has the aim of supporting Swedish interests and promoting good ties between nations. The ship will be the site of a bilateral meeting between Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist and Juozas Olekas, Lithuanian National Defense Minister.

HMS Karlstad’s Commander, Bernt Andersson, said:

We have a busy program in Lithuania. In addition to receiving the minister, we will have visits and meetings with the Lithuanian Navy.

The vessel will conduct routine maritime surveillance along the way, both to contribute to the enforcement of maritime law and to practice.

HMS Karlstad will leave the port of Klaipeda Friday morning and head for its homeport in Karlskrona. The crew will have little time to rest before they engage in Exercise Swenex 2015 on Monday, October 12.
