USS Ramage Assists Stranded Vessel

Guided missile destroyer USS Ramage (DDG 61), part of the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, rendered aid to a distressed vessel, Sept. 18.

While conducting a training exercise off the coast of South Carolina, Ramage lookouts reported sighting a red flare.

Upon further inspection the crew spotted motor vessel King Fisher II, dead in the water. After several unsuccessful attempts to contact the small vessel, Ramage sent a boat crew to render assistance.

Two individuals aboard the small boat reported they had lost propulsion and were stranded.

Ramage’s rescue and assistance team restored propulsion, allowing the vessel to operate under its own power.

U.S. Coast Guard Station Charleston was notified to escort the vessel to Charleston, South Carolina.

Ramage is underway participating in Composite Training Unit Exercise with the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group.
