LÉ NIAMH Transports Rescued Migrants to Augusta, Sicily

After yet another successful migrant rescue operation, the Irish Navy’s LÉ NIAMH sailed to Augusta, Sicily.

With more than 500 people aboard, the vessel arrived to Augusta on Saturday morning, September 19.

In three separate rescue operation conducted on Friday LÉ NIAMH managed to rescue around 380 people. An additional 133 rescued migrants were taken from the Italian Coast Guard vessel the CP906 ORAZIO CORZI.

The rescue operations were carried out off Tripoli with the assistance of Italian Navy’s frigate Aliseo (F 574).
