Spanish Navy’s Infanta Elena Takes Part in Migrant Rescue

Spanish Navy’s patrol vessel Infanta Elena (P76) recently took part in a search and rescue mission involving a vessel with 8 migrants on board.

While conducting its mission in the Alboran Sea, Infanta Elena was ordered to inspect the vessel which sailing about 30 miles away at the time. As they set the course to the vessel’s last known position, maintaining communication with Condor 3 which first spotted the vessel, Infanta Elena was joined by the coastguard vessel Salvamar Hamal, based in Motril.

After a two-hour search the suspected smuggling vessel was finally spotted drifting with eight people aboard. The migrants were transferred to Salvamar Hamal and brought to Motril.

Infanta Elena is currently deployed on a maritime surveillance mission in the Gulf of Cadiz and the Alboran Sea.
