Australia and India Set up a Joint Exercise

After years of talking about improving defense ties, Australia and India finally organized their first joint naval exercise.

According to the Australian Defense Minister Kevin Andrews, this first bilateral naval exercise, called Exercise AUSINDEX, will be held off India later this month.

Andrews added that the inaugural bilateral maritime exercise will include participation by various naval and air force platforms.

Some of the Australian units which will take part in the drills are an Anzac frigate, oil tanker, Collins submarines and an Orion maritime surveillance aircraft.

Exercise AUSINDEX represents a new stage in the defence relationship between these two countries.
