Royal Navy’s Faslane Naval Base Gets £500 Mln

Royal Navy’s submarine base HM Naval Base Clyde at Faslane received £500 million of funding which will secure 6700 jobs and create thousands more.

UK’s Chancellor George Osborne, who made the announcement, added that this funding will guarantee the Naval Base’s future to at least 2067.

Work is expected to start in 2017 and will focus on ship lifts, sea walls, jetties and other major projects.

Faslane is the largest military establishment in Scotland, and alongside Portsmouth and Devonport is one of three major naval hubs.

From 2020, Faslane will be the Royal Navy’s ‘Submarine Centre of Specialisation’ which means all of the UK’s underwater capability will be based in Scotland.
