New Commander Boards USS Dewey

US Navy’s Guided missile destroyer USS Dewey (DDG 105) held a change of command ceremony on board Naval Base San Diego, Aug. 14.

During the ceremony, Cmdr. Mikael A. Rockstad turned over command of the guided missile destroyer to Cmdr. Abigail A. Hutchins.

Dewey recently completed a 10-month-deployment with the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group and participated in Seattle Sea Fair.

Hutchins had previously served as the ship’s executive officer and assumed command as part of the Navy’s fleet-up program.

Dewey is currently in a ship’s restricted availability (SRA) period but is maintaining the ship at the high level of readiness for future operations.
