HMAS Leeuwin Joins Fiji Navy’s Anniversary Celebration

The ship’s company of Royal Australian Navy Hydrographic ship HMAS Leeuwin was able to share a significant milestone recently with Fijian Navy colleagues.

As the Republic of Fiji Navy marked their 40th anniversary on 25 July, Leeuwin was undertaking a survey of uncharted Fijian waters.

Leeuwin is currently deployed to Fiji and is surveying waters in the vicinity of Rotuma Island with members of the Republic of Fiji Navy. The information gathered will be used to update charts to provide mariners with confidence and allow an opportunity for economic growth through trade and tourism.

Leeuwin is the first Royal Australian Navy ship to visit Fiji since December 2006, reflecting the steady increase in the navy-to-navy relationship since defence ties were re-established.
