USS Laboon Exits the Black Sea

The Arleigh-Burke class guided-missile destroyer USS Laboon (DDG 58) departed the Black Sea on July 1, 2015, after a series of engagements that promoted peace and stability in the region.

Laboon’s presence in the Black Sea reaffirmed U.S. commitment toward the region and increased joint operational capabilities amongst U.S., NATO and regional Black Sea partners.

The vessel entered the Black Sea June 21, 2015, in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve. USS Laboon participated in a passing exercise (PASSEX) with the Romanian Navy corvette Admiral Eustatiu Sebastian (F-264) in the Black Sea, June 22-23 and afterwards conducted a brief port visit to Batumi, Georgia, June 26, 2015. While in port, Laboon hosted a tour for visitors and officials.

Laboon participated in a bilateral underway engagement with the Georgian Coast Guard June 29, 2015

Additionally, the vessel also participated in a PASSEX with the Turkish navy June 30, 2015.
