HMS Northumberland Joins Freedom Parade

Royal Navy’s Type 23 frigate HMS Northumberland sailed into North Shields on Wednesday 24 June for a busy six-day visit.

The vessel is berthed at Northumbrian Quay North Shields and will remain alongside until Monday 29 June.

During her stay the ship and her crew will play host to a wide range of visitors and take part in a number of affiliation events.

Today, 26 June, 160 members of the ship’s company will march in a Freedom Parade through the county town of Morpeth accompanied by the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland dressed in scarlet tunics, bearskins and kilts. The parade will start in Coopies Lane at 1.30pm.

HMS Northumberland will open to visitors tomorrow, Saturday 27 June, on Armed Forces Day.

This will be HMS Northumberland’s first visit to the North East under the Command of her new Commanding Officer, Commander Trish Kohn.
