BAE Systems Wins USNS Rainier Maintenance Deal

US Navy’s supply ship USNS Rainier (T-AOE 7) will undergo regular overhaul and dry docking at BAE Systems’ San Francisco yard.

The contract, worth $13,5 million, is for a 45-calendar-day shipyard availability. Work will include elevator fork truck guard deck and sump removal, upgrade FAS station oil containment (T-ALT 204), thrust bearing inspection, switchboard and load center cleaning, INMARSAT B preventive maintenance, gallery/scullery equipment maintenance, overhaul miscellaneous fans and motors, dry-docking and undocking vessel, steel renewal, main propulsion shafting, and rudders and stern frame examination.

The contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the total contract value to over $15,4 million.

The work will be performed in San Francisco, California, and is expected to be completed by Aug. 27, 2015.

The Navy’s Military Sealift Command is the contracting activity.
