A Turkish Navy warship arrived to Manila, Philippines, on Monday for a four day Goodwill Visit marking the first time that a Turkish vessel has ever visited the country.

TCG Gediz (F 495), headed by Rear Admiral Aydin Sirin, the Chief of Inspection and Evaluation of Turkish Naval Forces, is on a deployment which involves a visit to 18 ports in 14 countries to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of voyage of Frigate Ertugrul from Turkey to Japan that ended tragically when it sank due to a strong typhoon.

Prior its arrival, TCG Gediz was met by a Philippine Navy (PN) vessel Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas (BRP) Bagong Silang Patrol Gunboat (PG 104) in the vicinity of Corregidor Island and escorted it to the designated berthing space.

This port visit is expected to enhance and strengthen mutual relationship between the two countries.
