FNS Albatros to Retire after 47 Years

Authorities

French Navy’s offshore patrol vessel FNS Albatros (P681) will soon conclude it’s 47-year service.

The vessel, which departed Cape Town yesterday for a final voyage to Brest in northwestern France, is set to be decommissioned in August 2015.

FNS Albatros had a mission to protect the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) against piracy, drug warfare and illegal fishing.

The vessel will be replaced in October 2017 by an icebreaker manned by the French Navy and funded by IPEV and TAAF.
