Authorities

The South African Navy will be celebrating World Hydrography Day in East London from 17 to 21 June 2015.

As part of the celebrations, the SA Navy will be sending no less than three ships to visit East London.

SAS PROTEA is the SA Navy’s hydrographic survey vessel and will showcase the importance of hydrography and how it affects South Africa. SAS ISANDLWANA is the second of the SA Navy’s frigates and one of the most modern on the African continent. SAS ‘MANTHATISI is the first of the new SA Navy submarines and will also visit East London for the first time.

All of these ships will be open to public over the weekend of 20 – 21 June.

The SA Navy has been doing Hydrography since 1922, and became a full member of the World Hydrographic Organisation in 1955.
