Philippine, Japanese Navies Engage in PASSEX

During a recent port visit to Manila, Philippines, two Japanese Navy vessels JS Harusame (DD-102) and JS Amigiri (DD-154) held a Passing Exercise (PASSEX) with BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PF16) at vicinity of Manila Bay and Corregidor.

While in PASSEX, the ships conducted maneuvering, visual communications and publication exercises utilizing the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES). Also part of the exercise was the Deck Landing Qualifications and Cross Deck Exercises wherein Philippine Navy AW 109 helicopter landed on the deck of the Japanese warship.

The exercise provided an opportunity to enhance interoperability between these two navies in order to strengthen their relationship and partnership in promoting peace and stability in the maritime region.

Japanese Navy vessels were docked in Manila’s South Harbour from May 9 until May 12.
