ESPS Galicia Meets WFP Vessel MV Douro

Whilst conducting counter-piracy patrols in the Indian Ocean, EU Naval Force flag ship, ESPS Galicia, took the opportunity to sail close to World Food Programme (WFP) Motor Vessel, (MV) Douro, as it sailed along the coast on its way to deliver food aid to the Somali people.

MV Douro currently has an EU Naval Force Serbian Maritime Protection Team on board to protect it from potential pirate attack.

Since the EU Naval Force has afforded protection to WFP vessels, none have been attacked by pirates and as a result, nearly a million tonnes of food aid has arrived safely in to Somali ports.
