Authorities

On Wednesday 6 May Dutch warship, HNLMS Johan de Witt, completed three and a half months as the flag ship for Operation Atalanta.

Under the command of Captain René Lyuckx, she carried out counter-piracy patrols and gave support to EU sister mission, EUCAP Nestor, by providing Local Maritime Capacity Building training to regional state navies and coast guards. She also hosted Rear Admiral Jonas Haggren’s international Force HQ staff.

During the deployment, HNLMS Johan de Witt visited five different countries, including Tanzania and the Seychelles. On 1 May 2015, a medal parade on board was held to honour those that served during the Mission.
