USNS Spearhead Says Goodbye to Mindelo, Cabo Verde

The Military Sealift Command’s joint high-speed vessel USNS Spearhead (JHSV 1), along with its embarked detachment of U.S. Navy Sailors and civil service mariners, departed Mindelo, Cabo Verde, following a scheduled port visit May 11, 2015.

The visit is Spearhead’s final port call as it finishes up its deployment in U.S. 6th Fleet area of operation in support of Africa Partner Station (APS) 2015. While in port, the ship hosted visits from Cabo Verde Prime Minister, Jose Maria Pereira Neves and the U.S. Ambassador to Cabo Verde, Donald L. Heflin.

During the deployment, Spearhead traveled 23,346 nautical miles and made 15 port calls in seven different nations supporting Africa Partnership Station 2015.

After departing U.S. 6th Fleet, Spearhead will briefly return to Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia, for a maintenance period before continuing its deployment as scheduled to U.S. 4th Fleet.
