Ireland to Assist in Med Migrant Crisis

The Irish Navy vessel LE Eithne has completed its preparation for the deployment in the Mediterranean Sea humanitarian mission.

Once the legal clarifications were made, the vessel started its preparation for the mission and is now on standby in Haulbowline, Cork.

Officials expect that it will deploy by the middle of next week.

According to Ireland’s Minister of Defence Simon Coveney, LE Eithne has the largest deck space compared to other Irish Navy vessels and is therefore most suitable for this mission.
