The second, USS Ross (DDG 71), arrived June 16, 2014. Porter will provide a mobile missile defense option and will be a key component of the U.S. European Phased Adaptive Approach.

Vice Adm. James Foggo III, commander U.S. 6th Fleet, said:

Porter joins USS Donald Cook and USS Ross as the third of four forward-deployed destroyers in Rota. Our forces will continue to grow with the arrival of USS Carney later this year.
