USS Porter Arrives at Naval Station Rota, Spain

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) arrived at Naval Station Rota, Spain, to begin her forward-deployment to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations April 30, 2015.

Porter departed Norfolk, June 3, and is the third of four Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers to be forward-deployed to Rota. The first, USS Donald Cook (DDG 75), arrived Feb. 11, 2014. The second, USS Ross (DDG 71), arrived June 16, 2014. Porter will provide a mobile missile defense option and will be a key component of the U.S. European Phased Adaptive Approach.

Vice Adm. James Foggo III, commander U.S. 6th Fleet, said:

Porter joins USS Donald Cook and USS Ross as the third of four forward-deployed destroyers in Rota. Our forces will continue to grow with the arrival of USS Carney later this year.
