Australian Navy’s Adelaide class guided-missile frigate HMAS Newcastle (FFG 06) is on its way to the Middle East region.

After departing the port of Mumbai, India, the vessel navigated through the narrow channel of the lock system.

HMAS Newcastle will spend six months deployed in Middle Eastern Operation MANITOU. This marks the vessel’s 60th rotation and the fifth time HMAS Newcastle has deployed to the Middle East.

Operation MANITOU is the Maritime Security Operation on the Middle East region and is Australia’s contribution to counter terrorism, counter piracy, narcotics interdiction and improves overall stability to that region, the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Aden, the Red Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean.
