Italian Navy Removes WWII Bomb

Italian Navy disposed of a World War II bomb found off the coast of Sorrento.

The bomb was lying at a depth of only 7 meters from the Marina del Cantone beach, near the local pier for pleasure boats.

A preliminary survey operation, undertaken on April 21-22, showed that the bomb appeared wedged between small boulders and was partially covered with sand and vegetation, making the removal operation more difficult. On Thursday morning, April 23, Navy divers embarked on a mission to dispose of the bomb.

After removing the bomb from its position, the divers used a patrol boat to transport it two miles further where they detonated it.
