Five U.S. Navy ships and participants from several other U.S. Navy supporting commands concluded their participation in the latest in a series of successful Joint Warrior exercises in Faslane, Scotland, April 23.
The U.S. Navy ships participating in Joint Warrior 15-1 were the guided-missile cruisers USS Anzio (CG 68) and USS Vicksburg (CG 69); the guided-missile destroyers USS Porter (DDG 78) and USS Donald Cook (DDG 75); and the Military Sealift Command dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Medgar Evers (T-AKE 13). Commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing (CPRW) 11 and Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 48 also participated in the exercise.
Exercise Joint Warrior is a semi-annual training exercise conducted in the coastal waters off the United Kingdom. The training, led by the United Kingdom, is designed to provide NATO and allied forces a multi-warfare environment in which to prepare for global operations. Participating countries aim to improve interoperability and prepare forces for future combined exercises.
Commander, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 26 led the U.S. contingent for the third straight iteration of the exercise. This fall, when the next Joint Warrior kicks off, the DESRON staff will be busy working with USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) and Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 10 in preparation for the strike group’s next scheduled deployment.
Joint Warrior 15-2 is scheduled to take place this upcoming autumn and last approximately two weeks.
