Italian Navy’s frigate Aliseo concluded its deployment with NATO Standing Maritime Group 2.
The vessel returned to its homeport Taranto yesterday, April 23, after a busy period in the Mediterranean Sea, where Aliseo was part of NATO’s counter-terrorism Operation Active Endeavour.
Aliseo was part of SNMG2 from February 3. During its deployment, Alisao engaged in operations with USS Vicksburg, HMCS Fredericton, TCG Turgutreis and TCG Goksu, SPS Canarias and replenishment tankers Patino, Marne and Spessart. As part of SNMG2 the vessel deployed to the Black Sea and Atlantic Ocean as well.
Operation Active Endeavour(OAE) demonstrates NATO’s resolve to help deter, defend, disrupt and protect against terrorism and is an example of the added essential value that NATO brings to the complex global fight against terrorism. OAE is a NATO Article 5 mission.
