The US Navy’s aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson recently engaged in a replenishment-at-sea with the French Navy’s replenishment oiler Meuse (A607) as part of Operation Shamal.

Given the US aircraft’s massive size and weight, the operation was conducted at a safe distance to prevent any incidents from occurring.

Launched on September 19, 2014, operation Shamal mobilizes 3,200 soldiers. It aims at the request of the Iraqi government and in coordination with allied of France in the region, to provide air support to Iraqi forces in the fight against terrorist groups.
