Spanish Navy Takes Part in Obangame Express

The Spanish Navy’s patrol vessel Vencedora (P-79) attended the opening ceremony of the at-sea maritime exercise “Obangame Express” in Port Gentil, Gabon, on March 19.

The vessel, which is currently deployed on patrol along the African coast, will participate in the scenario planned during the exercise until March 26. Vencedora, together with Royal Navy’s destroyer HMS Dragon, RFA Gold Rover, and a Gabonese Navy patrol vessel, will train off the coast of Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Also, the vessel will host members of the Gabonese Navy aboard, in order to expand their knowledge in interdiction operations, security and maritime surveillance.

Obangame Express is organized to increase cooperation and interoperability of the Gulf of Guinea in surveillance operations and maritime security against illegal activities in their territorial waters and exclusive economic zones in close cooperation with the United States, major European powers and South America. A total of 22 countries is taking part in the exercise which takes place in the Gulf of Guinea.
