HMAS Anzac Hosts Commander Australian Fleet

HMAS Anzac, the Royal Australian Navy’s helicopter frigate, recently hosted the Commander Australian Fleet, Rear Admiral Stuart Mayer, for a short visit.

Together with the guided missile frigate HMAS Melbourne, Anzac is currently in the midst of a five week workup period off the New South Wales coastline, so Rear Admiral Mayer’s arrival by Melbourne’s embarked S-70-B Seahawk helicopter was a timely opportunity to take a look at the progress of the two ships’ workups for their upcoming taskings.

While on board, Rear Admiral Mayer took the opportunity to provide briefings to Anzac’s junior sailors, senior sailors and officers about the three key principles that guide his decision making – cultural change, seaworthiness and warfighting.

For Navy personnel, the concept of ‘seaworthiness’ will continue to be a key driver for decision making in the future.

HMAS Anzac will deploy on NORTHERN TRIDENT 2015 during which it will participate in the Centenary of Anzac commemorations in April, followed by a series of important international engagements.
