Iranian Navy Accepts New Destroyer

The Iranian Navy has expanded its fleet by accepting delivery of a new destroyer Damavand.

As reported by Press TV, the vessel aims to boost maritime security in the Caspian Sea. Compared to Iranian Navy’s Jamaran destroyer, delivered in 2010, the Damavand is more advanced, features a high level of technology and is much faster. The vessel, equipped with modern radar, electronic and reconnaissance systems, joined the fleet during a ceremony held in Bandar-e Anzali, Iran, on Monday.

This is the country’s second domestically-built vessel. The remaining two vessels of this class are under construction and will be added to the Iranian Naval fleets in the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf.
