MARCOM Commander Visits NMIOTC and Hellenic Navy

The Commander of NATO Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), Vice Admiral Peter Hudson CB CBE, paid a two-day visit to the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC) and the Hellenic Navy headquarters last week in conjunction with a visit to Standing NATO Maritime Group TWO (SNMG2).

On Thursday in Souda Bay, Vice Admiral Hudson visited Souda Naval Base and NMIOTC, where he met with Commodore Dimosthenis Chelmis and Commodore Ioannis Pavlopoulos. Vice Admiral Hudson received briefings, observed Advanced Maritime Law Enforcement Training and met with some NMIOTC students from Djibouti Code of Conduct countries.

Friday in Athens and Piraeus, Vice Admiral Hudson met with the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, and the Hellenic Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Panagiotis Listas, before visiting Hellenic Navy and SNMG2 warships. The Admirals discussed NATO’s Readiness Action Plan, including the establishment of a Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), maritime force generation issues, security along NATO’s southern flank, developments in the Hellenic Navy, Regional Military Cooperation, and NATO’s counter-terrorism Operation ACTIVE ENDEAVOUR.

Vice Admiral Hudson concluded his trip with a meeting with Commander SNMG2 Rear Admiral Brad Williamson and the Commanding Officers of SNMG2.
