Sri Lanka Navy Arrested 86 Indian Poachers

Sri Lanka Navy arrested 86 Indian fishermen poaching well inside Sri Lankan waters on 26th February 2015.

The arrests were made by the SLN patrol craft attached to the Northern and the Eastern Naval Commands while on routine patrol.

The naval patrol craft attached to the Northern Naval Command arrested 43 Indian fishermen along with 5 Indian fishing trawlers poaching in Sri Lankan waters off Chundikulam. The naval patrol craft attached to the Eastern Naval Command also arrested 43 Indian fishermen along with 5 Indian fishing trawlers poaching in Sri Lankan waters off Alampili.

The arrested Indian fishermen were brought to Kankasanthurai and Trincomalee harbours and handed over to the officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Jaffna and the Trincomalee Harbour Police for further action.
