Denmark Presents New Anti-Piracy Strategy

The Danish government recently announced its new anti-piracy strategy.

Covering a period from 2015 until 2018, this strategy sets the framework for Denmark’s overall political, developmental and military efforts against piracy.

Danish Foreign Minister Martin Lidegaard said that Denmark will continue its focus on combating piracy in the Horn of Africa, but will also bring its efforts to the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa, where piracy is of growing concern. The strategy aims at improving security and shipping conditions in the waters where the country has significant maritime interests.

The new anti-piracy strategy will follow up the previous strategy, which made Denmark influential in combating piracy, and the new efforts will initially be based on capacity building initiatives and an active Danish role in international cooperation on maritime security in the region.
