Constanta, Romania Welcomes USS Cole

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Cole (DDG 67) arrived in Constanta, Romania, for a scheduled port visit, Feb. 9, 2015.

Cole’s presence in Romania reaffirms to NATO allies that the U.S. Navy shares a commitment to strengthen ties while working toward mutual goals of promoting peace and stability in the Black Sea region.

Cmdr. James Quaresimo, USS Cole (DDG 67) commanding officer, said:

USS Cole’s port visit provides us a great opportunity to again strengthen our relationship with Romania and work alongside our counterparts in the Romanian Navy.

Cole’s port visit provides Sailors an opportunity to meet with naval counterparts in order to strengthen bonds for an enhanced partnership.

Cole last visited Constanta, Romania with the U.S. 6th Fleet command and control ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) Oct. 23, 2014.

Cole is currently operating in the Black Sea, working with allies and regional partners to help develop and improve our maritime forces, maintain regional security, and work towards mutual goals in order to advance security and stability in Europe. The ship deployed from Naval Station Norfolk, Aug. 22.
