USS Kauffman to Embark on Final Voyage

US Navy’s Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigate USS Kauffman (FFG 59) is scheduled to deploy on its last mission on Wednesday, January 7.

The vessel will join the 4th Fleet area of responsibility primarily in support of Operation Martillo which targets illicit trafficking in the waters off Central America.

USS Kauffman will be retired from service in October, upon her return from deployment. It will be the last of the frigates to be decommissioned leaving the Navy without any frigates in its fleet.

With this move the type’s 40 year history in the United States Navy will be concluded.
