ITS Caio Duilio, French Navy Conclude Training Period

Authorities

Italian Navy’s destroyer Caio Duilio is back at La Spezia base after a training period with the French Marine Nationale.

During the first fortnight in December, the vessel was in the Gulf of Lion off the southern coast of France.

ITS Duilio, with her commanding officer Captain Giacinto Sciandra, was the only foreign unit to participate in the fourth edition of the French exercise, which involved a tough training scenario concerning security at sea, as well as higher density operations.

The Duilio and the Forbin belong to the Orizzonte class, since they are the result of an Italian/French cooperation providing for the creation of four innovative air defence units, two of which for the Italian Armed Force and two for the French.

Gabian 2014 was also an opportunity to share experiences between the Duilio’s and the Forbin’s personnel. A delegation from the French unit spent a whole day on board the Duilio working side by side with their Italian colleagues.
