USS New York Prepares to Leave Haifa, Israel

 After it celebrated the New Year’s in Haifa, Israel, the San Antonio-class transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21) prepared to continue its deployment on January 4, 2015.

The vessel arrived in Haifa, Israel for a scheduled port visit on December 31, 2014.

Capt. Christopher Brunett, commanding officer, USS New York, said:

We have been presented with an excellent opportunity for the Sailors and Marines on board USS New York to enjoy liberty and embrace a culture few Americans get to witness first-hand.

During the visit USS New York hosted several tours on board for personnel of the U.S. Embassy.

This is the first port visit for New York during its routine deployment in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operation. The ship departed Naval Station Mayport, Florida, Dec. 11 and since then crossed the Atlantic Ocean, transited through the Strait of Gibraltar and crossed the Mediterranean Sea.
